CD Drive Letter not shown in My Computer

Some times in windows, When you start your computer, It detects the CD-Rom drive, CD-Rom Drive gets power (the green led blinks), but inside Windows Explorer or My computer the CD Rom Drive Icon disappears i.e. there will be No CD drive letter or Icon in My Computer or Windows Explorer to use. What to do?

Here is the solution that I have used successfully.

Applicable to : Windows 95/98/98SE/ME. (May work with other versions as well.)

  • Star your computer and right click on My Computer..
  • In the drop down menu shown, select Properties Item. The system properties window opens.
  • Click on "Device Manager" Tab in the window ( 2nd tab ).
  • Go to "hard disk controllers" Item and click the small + symbol to its left.
  • Now click Intel/Via "PCI bus master IDE controller".
  • Missing CD ROM Drive letter in My Computer

  • Click "Properties" button at the bottom of the system properties window .
  • Now go to Settings and set the Dual IDE channel setting to "Both IDE Channels Enabled"..
  • Click on OK and Restart your PC.
  • Your problem should be solved now.
