Trouble shooting Power Calibration Errors

Usually I use Nero 6 to write my CD's because it is the one shipped with my CD Writer.

Some time Ago, I started getting many "Power Calibration Error" error messages while writing LG cd's. I thought my CD writer is having a problem. But fortunately, that wasn't the case.

Here are the possible reasons which may cause this error according to my experience.

  • In 90% of the case, This error is due to Bad or Poor quality CD Media you are using. Use a high quality CD like Sony Original CD-R or Professional CD-R(cheap but best ). Don't use LG Cd's they are famous for their attractive design and price, but fail in most cases with "power calibration error" message.
  • If you already have a poor quality media, try writing at extreme slow speeds, for example my low quality LG CD-R collection (old stock) can be written without problems using 8x or 4x speeds.
  • Clean your CD writer lens, with a good CD cleaner disk. Use dry cleaner disk rather than a solvent based cleaner disk.
  • Some times (occasionally) trying other burning software's may help you. For example, try using Easy CD Creator instead of Nero.
  • Un-install and Try after re-installing your CD writer software.
  • Check out your CD writers power connecting cables.
  • As a last resort try an upgrade to your CD writers firmware.
  • If everything else fails, throw your writer to a dustbin, and get a new one.
