Identifying motherboard type using BIOS codes.

Mother board is the main circuit board of a computer. It sits inside your pc's cabinet and all other devices like keyboard, mouse, monitor, cpu, cd/dvd drives are attached to the motherboard. There are different types of motherboards for different use and different cpu's.

Identification of mother board is not easy, because literally there are hundreds of different motherboards from many different vendors.

But, Here is an easy way which helps in motherboard identification. I used this method to find my celeron cpu motherboard and got the drivers for it. Hope it helps you too.

  • Restart your computer.
  • The computer displays a BIOS initialization screen.
  • Press the "Pause" button on keyboard.
  • Find a small alpha numeric code at the top left corner of the screen.
  • (It may be on 2nd, 3rd or 4th line too. Its position depends on BIOS make)
  • Write it down carefully. Notedown the dots too if any.
  • Usually all original intell motherboards will have XX99999X.99X.9999.X99 format.
  • The characters before the first dot indicate the motherboard model.
  • If you still can't identify the motherboard, try searching for the BIOS code you found, on google. 90% of the time, you will know the mother board make and model.
